Autooxidation of Np(IV) in 4 and 6 M HNO3, induced by self-alpha-radia
tion, has been experimentally studied and simulated. Neptunium(IV) is
oxidized mainly via reaction with Np(VI). Rate constants for the react
ions Np(IV) + Np(VI) and Np(V) + Np(V) were determined by comparing ex
perimental and calculated current and equilibrium concentrations of Np
(IV) and Np(V).
