Expansion of the forehead skin has been advocated in nasal reconstruct
ion because it provides a flap that is longer and thinner, while allow
ing easy primary closure of the donor area. With appropriate changes i
n technique, the same excellent, or even better results in nasal recon
struction can be obtained without the need for tissue expansion. With
this technique, a two-stage nasal reconstruction is performed with alm
ost no need for secondary revisions. It eliminates the disadvantages o
f tissue expansion such as time loss, physical disfigure ment, discomf
ort, extra operation and costs.
