Seven women with recurrent breast carcinoma, which were treated by the
combination of wide excision, immediately reconstruction with myocuta
neous flap (TRAM or latissimus dorsi) and adjuvant brachytherapy, are
reported. The mean interval between the mastectomy and the recurrence
was 36 months (range 24-48) and mean age was 46.5 years (range 35-52 y
ears). The patients received a brachytherapy dose of 4600 rad 7 days p
ost-operation. The follow-up ranges from 26-37 months, and there has b
een no local recurrence or distant metastasis. The results, and advant
ages of the brachytherapy treatment are reported and a typical case is
described.
