More children than ever before are participating in organized sports.
Increased competition, pressure to perform, and intensive training hav
e created an environment ripe for injury. Appropriate training and sup
ervision, along with early diagnosis and treatment, can reduce morbidi
ty and help prevent injury. To this end, several issues concerning the
pediatric athlete should be addressed. These include training of the
pediatric athlete, overuse injury, spondylolysis, and knee injury This
article endeavors to provide some insight into and understanding of t
hese issues.
