Assessment of knee injuries os a common component of a busy orthopaedi
c practice. After critical evaluation, a number of patients will be fo
und to have meniscal or ligament pathology. This article reviews the v
ital roles these structures play in normal knee function. In addition,
the potentially deleterious effects of knee ligament and meniscal inj
uries are discussed, along with providing a rationale for the currentl
y recommended treatment of these injuries.
