Abstract
Systemic lupus erythematosus is a multisystem inflammatory disease cha racterized by antinuclear antibody production. The diagnosis of this d isease is established on the basis of a constellation of clinical and serologic features. Therapy is directed to specific disease manifestat ions and involves an array of antiinflammatory and immunosuppressive a gents that are administered judiciously to limit toxicity.
