We describe a new species of sunbird, Aethopyga linaraborae, known fro
m Mt. Mayo, Mt. Puting Bate, and MI. Pasian, all part of an isolated r
ange of mountains in eastern Mindanao, Philippines. It occurs commonly
in messy forest from about 1,200 m and above. We also describe a new
subspecies of Apo Sunbird, Aethopyga bolioni tibolii, known from Mt. B
usa and Mt. Matutum of southern Mindanao, where it is found in messy f
orest above 1,000 m.
