Using the new developed solar waste dryers a pilot plant of 50 sqm was
built to dry restaurant leftovers for feed production. The food waste
s were dried at high temperatures (50-100 degrees C) so that also ster
ilisation was achieved. A destillation performance of 4 kg water/sqm d
was observed on sunny days. The low cost material used allowed to red
uce costs to 7 Dollars/sqm. The first drying experiences with differen
t materials and the drying technique is given. Also dangers in future
applications due to entering human food chain are discussed.
