Ak. Banerjee et al., ALKALI-METALS AND STRUCTURE OF [MX(6)](4-) IONS - OCTAHEDRAL STRUCTURE OF A(2)MX(4) AND AMX(3) TYPE COMPLEXES, Journal of the Indian Chemical Society, 72(1), 1995, pp. 1-3
The complexes of the types A(2)MX(4) and AMX(3) (where A = alkali meta
ls; M = Be, Mg and 3d-transition metals; X = F and Cl) have tetragonal
and distorted octahedral structures respectively, Varied distortion f
rom regular octahedral geometry is due to the covalent bonding between
A-X. The species [MX(6)](4-) acts as ligand where the donating sites
are halogen atoms and forms complexes with alkali metals, The structur
es have been substantiated by ir spectra and crystals structure data.
