Our studies of adsorption and electrochemical behavior of platinum dep
osits on porous titanium showed that the Ti substrate is not inert wit
h respect to the platinum particles deposited onto it. During sweeping
of the potential from 0.06 to 1.5 V, on all studied deposit types, na
mely, hydrophobized platinum black and electroplated platinum, in addi
tion to hydrogen and oxygen adsorption and desorption, also oxidation
and dissolution of the titanium substrate take place in the ''oxygen''
potential region, as well as the substrate reduction in the ''hydroge
n'' region. All these processes are catalyzed significantly by platinu
m. In addition, we observed a spillover of the adsorbed hydrogen from
platinum to the substrate, which is basically irreversible and results
, most likely, in formation of titanium hydrides.
