Abstract
Our previous quasihomogeneous model for heat transfer in packed beds i
s extended so os to include mass transfer in the beds. A porosity-depe
ndent mass dispersion coefficient is incorporated into the previous mo
del. To examine the adequacy of the model, the sulfer dioxide reactor
of Schuler et al. is analyzed theoretically utilizing a finite differe
nce scheme. The theoretical results agreed well with the experimental
data without introducing any adjustable parameters.
