A large new species of the antilocaprid genus Capromeryx has been reco
vered from Blancan sediments of the Taunton locality, southwestern Ada
ms County, Washington. The complex history of the genus is briefly rev
iewed and Capromeryx tauntonensis, sp. nov., is described from cranial
and dental elements. Intermediate in size between Capromeryx arizonen
sis Skinner and Antilocapra americana Ord, C. tauntonensis is the olde
st and largest representative of the genus, and adds to a species seri
es reaching from the mid-Blancan to the Rancholabrean. Based on expand
ed faunal evidence, the age of the Taunton l.f. is revised upward from
equivalency with the lower Hagerman to a mid-Gauss correlation, inter
mediate between the Hagerman l.f. and Grand View l.f. of Idaho.
