Jp. Philipov et al., CHANGES IN SERUM CARBOXYTERMINAL TELOPEPTIDE OF TYPE-I COLLAGEN IN ANEXPERIMENTAL-MODEL OF CANINE OSTEOMYELITIS, Calcified tissue international, 57(2), 1995, pp. 152-154
Blood biochemical indices of bone turnover were followed up for 1 mont
h in six dogs with experimental osteomyelitis. The bone infection resu
lted in significant increase in parameters of bone formation (serum bo
ne alkaline phosphatase and serum osteocalcin) and bone resorption [se
rum carboxyterminal telopeptide of type I collagen (i-ICTP)] as early
as the end of the second week after the operation and inoculation. The
re was strong evidence that serum i-ICTP levels could be useful for th
e early diagnosis of postoperative complications in veterinary orthope
dics, such as posttraumatic osteomyelitis.
