A simple, low cost 3 GHz bandwidth preamplifier suitable for pulse-cou
nting applications utilizing chevron microchannel plate (MCP) detector
s has been built with monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) a
mplifiers in multiple stages. Its bandwidth matched the rise time of M
CP output pulses (<300 ps), thereby maintaining leading edge timing in
formation. The use of MMICs made this device inexpensive and easy to c
