The reaction of tetraphenyltin with carboxylic acids leads to tin tetr
acarboxylates in nearly quantitative yields. These compounds have been
characterized by elemental analysis, IR, H-1, C-13 and Sn-119 NMR spe
ctra. By this route tin(IV)-tetrakis(dicyclohexylphosphinate) and bis(
t-butylphosphonate) could also be synthesized. The Sn-119 NMR Spectra
in solution suggest a coordination number of eight. around tin for the
carboxylates, which is consistent with the solid state structure of t
in tetraacetate.
