Synthesis of 4'-Fluoroadenosine was achieved via N-6-benzoyl-9-(5-deox
y-2, benzoyl-beta-D-erythro-pent-4-enofuranosyl)adenine as intermediat
e. Evaluation of its inhibitory effect on S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine hy
drolase exhibited interesting properties. 4'-Fluoroadenosine caused a
time-dependent inactivation of the enzyme, this inactivation was accom
panied by reduction of the enzyme-bound NAD(+)(ENAD+) to NADH.
