The spiritual dimensions of gatherings of women, particularly those wi
th a dedication to something beyond the self, are explored. Women's gr
oups are argued to be a potentially valuable resource for therapy as t
hey provide a safe place where the ''feminine principle'' can be honor
ed and reclaimed. The paper employs an experiential learning model and
uses stories to illustrate key points. Storytelling as prayer is anal
yzed as a vehicle for healing, developing, and transformation within e
ach woman and the larger community. Three types of stories-Medicine, T
eaching and Stories of Power-are described along with three supportive
functions women's groups play.
