INVENTORIES AND THE BUSINESS-CYCLE

This paper examines the relationship between the inventory cycle and t he business cycle using both macroeconomic and survey data. It is argu ed that over the past decade and a half, the changes in inventory mana gement have reduced the amplitude of the inventory cycle. The paper al so argues that the behaviour of inventories is consistent with demand shocks being an important source of business cycle fluctuations.
