Abstract
The major characteristics of a TQM organizational environment are revi ewed. Assumptions underlying TQM and traditional HRM concerning job pe rformance are contrasted. A model of performance is developed which in corporates and extends both perspectives. Implications of this model f or performance appraisal and performance management are considered.
