Erosion corrosion of heat exchanger tubes in warm, flowing Persian Gul
f seawater containing trp to 5 ppm of sulfide ions is investigated. Tu
be samples were made of copper (Cu)-nickel (Ni) alloys (90%Cu-10% Ni a
nd 70% Cu-30%Ni), Ni-Cu alloy (UNS N04400), and Ni-based alloys (UNS N
06022, N06030, and S32550). Visual and optical examinations of the int
ernal surfaces of the tubes were conducted to compare the susceptibili
ties to erosion corrosion attack of the different alloys, taking into
consideration the nature of the product films formed.
