Abstract
The behaviour of concrete is complex as it changes with time from a fl uid to a solid. When allowed to mature without constraint, its mechani cal properties vary and there are important changes in volume. Risks o f cracking associated with these changes can have important consequenc es for the design and construction of structures. We propose a model f or roller compacted concrete within the framwork of the thermodynamics of irreversible processes, and describe two applications showing the possibilities of this model.
