Abstract
Explicit formula for design of PI and PID controllers are derived for an unstable first-order plus time delay system. A condition for the ma ximum value of (tau(d)/tau) for stability is derived. The performance of the PID controller with the proposed controller settings is compare d with that of:DE PAOR and O'MALLEY [1]. The present controller settin gs give less overshoot and less settling time for both the servo and r egulatory problems.
