Abstract
The dynamics of gain-switched, low-pressure photolytic iodine lasers w ere investigated experimentally and theoretically as a function of pre ssure and buffer gas. The behavior of the pulse shape, build-up, and d uration can be explained by relaxation from a nonthermalized to a ther malized velocity distribution of the gas.
