Results are presented for the angular distributions of electrons from
spatially aligned core excited CO using an angle-resolved photoelectro
n-photoion coincidence technique in the regions of the C and O 1s edge
s and sigma resonances. Coincidence measurements were recorded betwee
n ions ejected at 0 degrees and 90 degrees with respect to the electri
c field of the linearly polarized radiation and for photoelectrons ran
ging from 0 degrees to 90 degrees with respect to the molecular axis.
The results show a strong departure from angular distribution measurem
ents made more conventionally; in particular, multiple outgoing partia
l waves of high angular momentum are seen to make a significant contri
bution.
