X-ray diffraction measurements show that the Sm2Fe15Si2Cx (x = 0, 0.5,
1.0 and 1.5) samples prepared by are-melting are single phase with th
e rhombohedral Th(2)Z(17)-type structure. The unit cell volume nu and
Curie temperature T-c of the Sm2Fe15Si2Cx compounds increase monotonic
ally with increasing carbon concentration. The room temperature temper
ature saturation magnetization M(s) is 112.2 emu g(-1) for x = 0.5 it
decreases slightly with increasing carbon concentration to 105.6 emu g
(-1) for x = 1.5. The sample with x = 0 has an easy-plane anisotropy a
nd the samples with x greater than or equal to 0.5 exhibit an easy c-a
xis anisotropy. The anisotropy held H-A at 1.5 K and room temperature
increases with increasing carbon concentration from 110 to 195 kOe and
from 55 to 105 kOe, respectively, as x increases from x = 0.5 to 1.5.
