Abstract
The ductile-shear-failure surfaces of amorphous metallic materials obt ained under uniaxial tension and pressure loading conditions had a sim ilar morphology. Extremal spatial and time localization of the plastic deformation during the catastrophic shear results in a local heating of this region and a possible presence of a ''liquid-like'' layer at t he moment of rupture. The shear band width in an amorphous-alloy ribbo n was estimated by a fractographic analysis (similar to 5 nm).
