Abstract
The fundamentals of the theory of random closed sets in the Euclidean space of an arbitrary dimension d are presented and the selected chara cteristics of random closed sets are introduced. Namely, Choquet hitti ng functional, contact distribution functions, covariance and set cova riance, K-function and pair correlation function. Further, the most im portant models of random closed sets are described and shortly discuss ed, in particular germ-grain model, Poisson point process, cluster fie lds, hard-core models, lattice models, Boolean model, Poisson hyperpla nes etc.
