Adult male laboratory mice have been shown to display a distinct circa
dian rhythm of total motor activity and locomotor (barrel rotating) ac
tivity. This activity was stimulated in constant darkness and attenuat
ed in constant light. Administration of 1 IU of oxytocin once daily fo
r 3 consecutive days inhibited the motor activity and, in some animals
, also the locomotor activity.
