GROWTH DATA OF EEL (ANGUILLA-ANGUILLA L) IN THE ALSATIAN PART OF THE RIVER RHINE

Elvers labelled with tetracycline were put in the river Rhine during M arch 1989 and regularly sampled over a five years period. The catches confirmed high individual variability of their growth. The mean annual growth rate of unsexed fish is around 55 mm with an increment near 10 0 mm for the first year of life in freshwater. These data fall between the two extremes obtained in other rivers, lakes and lagoons of weste rn Europe.
