Abstract
The monolithic integration of a mushroom type MQW DFB laser with a spo t-size transformer based on a two-layer lateral raper is reported. Hig hly efficient coupling to a butt-joined dispersion-shifted singlemode fibre with a coupling loss down to 0.9 dB and large alignment toleranc es was achieved, maintaining the good spectral characteristics of an i solated DFB-laser structure.
