Abstract
The noise figure of an optical frequency converter based on four-wave mixing in a semiconductor optical amplifier is defined and measured. T he noise figure of the frequency converter is shown to be a function o f the optical pump power, and is reduced at pump levels which are high er than the pump power required for maximum conversion efficiency.
