Abstract
In an intensity-modulated direct-detection soliton transmission system , the alternate modulation of the polarisation between two orthogonal states allows an improvement in the distance/bandwidth limit imposed b y the lumped amplification. Particular emphasis is given to the 10Gbit /s transmission in standard dispersion fibre with no in-line controls over distances up to 700km.
