Abstract
The surface resistance of ceramic Y1Ba2CU3O7-x samples obtained by the melting technique and Y1Ba2CU4O8 samples were measured within the tem perature range 30-120 K. The techniques of manufacturing the samples a re described. Measurements were carried out using the resonator method at a frequency of 39 GHz. The residual losses in melt (1 2 3) samples are below 10(-1) Omega which is much smaller than in the traditional ceramics. The residual R(s) for the best (124) samples is 0.9 Omega. T he results are analyzed in terms of various theoretical models.
