R. Hippler et al., MULTIPLE AND INNER-SHELL IONIZATION BY POSITRON AND ELECTRON-IMPACT, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section B, Beam interactions with materials and atoms, 99(1-4), 1995, pp. 12-14
Recent results for the K- and L-shell ionization of silver and gold, r
espectively, and the multiple ionization of argon, krypton, and xenon
atoms by positron and electron impact will be discussed. The measured
cross section ratios for triple relative to single ionization by posit
ron impact decrease more rapidly towards threshold compared to electro
n impact. This behavior is similar compared to results obtained for th
e inner shell ionization of silver and gold, and attributed to the acc
eleration or deceleration which incident electrons or positrons, respe
ctively, undergo in the target nuclear field.
