Employing the Giessen ion-ion crossed-beams apparatus, we have investi
gated the one- and two-electron detachment processes from H- in collis
ions with multiply-charged noble gas ions. For both processes, absolut
e cross sections have been measured in the center-of-mass energy range
from 50 keV to 200 keV. Different target ion species have been used a
s well as different target ion charge states q ranging up to q = 8. Th
e data are compared to the results of recent theoretical approaches. B
ased on the provided data, estimations have been made for the expected
neutralization efficiencies of H- ion beams in a so-called ''plasma-n
eutralizer'' proposed for efficient neutral beam heating of future fus
ion devices.
