These clinical guidelines, which have been reviewed and approved by th
e Board of Directors of the American Sleep Disorders Association (ASDA
), provide recommendations for the practice of sleep medicine in North
America with regards to the use of oral appliances for the treatment
of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Oral appliances have been deve
loped for the treatment of snoring and have been applied to the treatm
ent of obstructive sleep apnea, a syndrome associated with morbidity.
Based on a review of the relevant scientific literature, the Standards
of Practice Committee of the ASDA has developed guidelines describing
the use of oral appliances for the treatment of snoring and obstructi
ve sleep apnea in adults.
