28 patients (13 female, 15 male) were included in a retrospective clin
ical study. They were admitted to the University Hospital of Essen bet
ween 1980 and 1992 with the diagnosis of cerebral lymphoma. The ;mean
age was 46.1 years. 14 patients suffered fi om I primary cerebral lymp
homa, 9 from intracerebral metastasis of systemic lymphomas, 3 from me
ningiosis lymphomatosa, and 2 from cerebral lymphomas associated with
AIDS. Diagnosis was confirmed by stereotactic biopsy. All patients wer
e examined by CT; in individual cases, MRI studies were performed. The
aim of this study was to identify neuroradiological differences betwe
en primary and secondary intracerebral lymphomas. The clinical feature
s of the two patient groups were compared. Present data indicate that
in patients with secondary intracerebral lymphomas the disease was mor
e often multifocal. The prognosis was worse than in patients with prim
ary intracerebral lymphomas.
