In the absence of an auxiliary ligand, the title reaction led to redox
products among which In2Cl4(thf)(2) has been identified as an In-In-b
onded dinuclear In(II) complex. However, in the presence of Ph(2)PCH(2
)CH(2)PPh(2) (dppe), a novel hexanuclear cluster of the formula Au3In3
Cl6(dppe)(2) was produced, which is composed of a triangle of gold ato
ms (with one very short edge) penetrated by a perpendicular triangle o
f indium atoms.
