CHIRAL [RU(PP)(2)(CO)(2)](2-BRIDGED DINUCLEAR COMPLEXES() SPECIES (PP=BIDENTATE POLYPYRIDYL LIGAND) AND THEIR USE IN THE STEREOSELECTIVE SYNTHESIS OF LIGAND)

The decarbonylation of chiral [Ru(pp)(2)(CO)(2)](2+) (pp = bidentate p
olypyridyl ligands) in the presence of excess pp shows stereoretention
in the [Ru(pp)(3)](2+) product, and under the same conditions, its re
action with chiral [Ru(pp')(2)(BL)](2+) centers (pp and pp' may or may
not be identical; BL = bridging ligand) allows synthesis of specific
diastereoisomeric forms of the dinuclear species [(pp)(2)Ru(BL)Ru(pp')
(2)](4+).
