A system for pig slurry treatment, where anaerobic digestion, nitrific
ation and denitrification have been integrated in a unique process tre
atment, has been investigated. This configuration allowed both removal
of Chemical Oxygen Demand (GOD) and a decrease in nitrogen content. S
trategies are reported to bring enough COD to the denitrification syst
em. Results (90% reduction in COD, 98.8% reduction in NH4+-N and 98.8%
reduction in NO3-N) show this process could be considered a good alte
rnative to treat these wastes.
