Abstract
The World Wide Web is an information retrieval system on the Internet which has gained immense popularity during the last couple of years. W eb documents include links to other documents and other media types su ch as images, sounds, and movies. This makes it an ideal method for di sseminating data, concepts, and other forms of information. The amount of information available to the Web is increasing and new methods of searching out data are being developed. Global information systems in general and the Web in particular are relatively new concepts for many researchers. This paper aims to introduce the Web and give some examp les of the type of information available and give an insight into the future trends of the Web.
