Abstract
The syntheses of the terpenoid antifungal LL-Z1271 alpha and other rel ated compounds were achieved starting from the communic acids. The syn thetic approach includes a mercuriation-demercuriation reaction of a g amma,delta-unsaturated methyl ester in the presence of O-2, giving ris e to a lactone ring.
