Abstract
p-Carboranylcarbene adds to alkenes with nearly complete retention of stereochemistry, thus implying the singlet state as the predominant re acting species. Nonetheless, EPR spectroscopy shows that the ground st ate of this intermediate is the triplet, as is the ground state of m-c arboranylcarbene.
