The effect of processing temperature on the structure and mechanical p
roperties of poly(4-methyl pentene-1) under uniaxial drawing at temper
atures close to the glass transition temperature of the polymer was st
udied. Initial stages of polymer deformation were shown to be associat
ed with conformational changes in chain molecules and further drawing
was accompanied by the breakdown of initial structure and its partial
recrystallization. With increasing processing temperature, the develop
ment of weaker supermolecular structures was observed, and the onset o
f structural changes was shifted toward higher strains. Under polymer
uniaxial drawing, the conversion of structural rearrangements was show
n to increase with increasing processing temperature.
