The latest developments in programmable digital valve control cards ma
ke it possible to integrate a number of intelligent features to signif
icantly improve the performance of fluid power systems. An ostensibly
open-loop motor speed drive is considered using proportional valve tec
hnology, a two-axis digital electronic drive card being used to actuat
e a flow control valve and a pressure control valve. It is shown how s
teady-state speed control can be improved while simultaneously optimis
ing efficiency, reducing supply power, and improving the dynamic behav
iour.
