S. Kautzsch et al., AN OUTBREAK OF BRUCELLOSIS IN PIGS AND CO NCLUSIONS FOR CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS EPIDEMIC DISEASE, Berliner und Munchener Tierarztliche Wochenschrift, 108(6), 1995, pp. 201-205
The examination of an outbreak of brucellosis in domestic pigs showed
unambiguously the existence of a natural focus of infection in the pop
ulation of wild boars. Contrary to former assumptions persistance of B
r. suis, Biovar 2, to occur mainly in the population of hares, evident
ly a change of hosts has taken place. Possible cause might be a contra
ry development of the density of these wild animal populations. Health
control of wild animals should not be neglected, as it is an importan
t part of the prevention of epidemic diseases.
