Abstract
The nondestructive and reversible formation of electrooptical inhomoge nuities in Y-cut lithium tantalate plates undergoing fast cooling or i nfluence of local elastic stress has been investigated. The behaviour of charges within nearsurface layer inherent in both phenomena resembl es the features of electret states.
