R. Chermette et al., TAENIA-CRASSICEPS INVASIVE CYSTICERCOSIS IN AN AIDS PATIENT, Bulletin de l'Academie nationale de medecine, 179(4), 1995, pp. 777-783
A first case is reported from France of a subcutaneous and muscular ti
ssues invasion by proliferative larval forms of Taenia crassiceps in a
n AIDS-patient with severe immunodeficiency. These larvae usually deve
lop in rodents whereas the adult form of the cestode is commonly found
in foxes. Authors emphazise the differential diagnosis from other hum
an subcutaneous metacestodoses such as T. solium cysticercosis, cenuro
sis and hydatidosis. The proliferative aspect of the larvae, the recur
rence of lesions after surgical removal and the possible invasion of o
ther tissues are elements of a poor prognosis.
