This paper summarizes the results of a worldwide round-robin test of h
igh voltage de (HVDC) insulators, which was carried out in six laborat
ories aiming at standardization of the method for artificial contamina
tion tests on HVDC insulators Flashover characteristics of three kinds
of specimens were evaluated by the clean fog and the salt fog procedu
res. Sufficient information is now available to allow the preparation
of provisional international specifications for artificial contaminati
on testing of HVDC insulators.
