Abstract
The parametric excitation of the low-frequency overtone in GaSe crysta l by a biharmonic optical field is shown to lead to bistability of bot h the crystal refractive index and the optical held generated in the f our-wave-mixing process. The effect appears to be much stronger in lay ered crystals than in crystals of higher symmetry.
